Check Your Progress

It is always good to know how you are doing in each of your courses. In courses that have frequent quizzes and tests you should know what your current grades are and where you are towards achieving the grade you want to earn in the class. However in other courses that have few tests or papers that can be more difficult.

Talk to your Instructors:

The best way to find out how you are doing is to ask your instructor. Your instructor should maintain "office hours" during which you can go by their office to talk about your progress. Many instructors publish their email address, office location and phone numbers at the top of the syllabus for the course. You can also look up your instructor in the Campus Directory.

Check your "Unsats" (aka Mid Term Grades):

At UNCG faculty are not required to give midterm grades. However in many 100 and 200 level courses faculty do let students know if they are performing at an "Unsatisfactory" level approximately 6-8 weeks into the semester. "Unsats" are entered by the faculty into the system and you can view your "Unsats" under the Mid Term Grades portion of UNCGenie.

Getting Help vs. Withdrawing:

If you get an "Unsat" that means you are NOT on track to pass the class. You should talk to the instructor immediately to see what you can do to improve your grade. If you need tutoring or other assistance you should seek help immediately. If it does not look like you are going to pass the class you may want to consider withdrawing from the course if it is before the "8 Week Drop Deadline". Keep in mind that while withdrawing from a class may help preserve your GPA it may have negative consequences on your Financial Aid Satisfactory Progress and any scholarships or athletic eligibility. Check with the Financial Aid Office if you have questions. Courses should be dropped using UNCGenie. Undergraduate students should visit or call Student Academic Services to talk with an advisor about withdrawing from school and Undergraduate Admissions for procedures for returning to UNCG. Graduate students should contact the Graduate School.
