Academic Advising is an essential part of student success at UNCG. At least once each semester you should meet with your academic advisor to discuss your progress towards your degree and course selection for the next semester. Although advising and assistance in determining courses is available to students, each student is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the courses they take meet the requirements for the degree they seek.
Continuing students have the opportunity to pre-register for the next semester in April (for Fall) and October/November (For Spring). Prior to Pre-Registration you should schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor. Faculty advisors usually have appointment sign-up sheets on their office doors as registration time approaches. At other times during the semester, faculty advisors post office hours when they are available to see students.
Depending on whether you are in the College of Arts & Sciences or one of the 6 professional schools and your class level (FR, SO, JR, SN, GR) you may be advised in an Advising Center or by a faculty advisor.
Advising Codes: It is critical that when you meet with your advisor that you get your Advising Code. Advising codes are required to access the Registration menu within UNCGenie, including the Drop/Add screens. New 6-digit codes are issued to all students for each semester*. Previous semester codes cannot be used to access current semester registration. This number is not the same as your 6 digit University PIN.
* Note: The Summer Session Advising code for all students is 555555, and some Graduate Programs that do not require advising may use 111111 for Spring and 888888 for Fall. All other continuing students should get their advising code from their advisor.
Undergraduates (UG): You should log into UNCGenie to locate your Advisor Assignment. Here you should find the name of your Advisor(s), their email address, campus office location and phone number. Contact your advisor to schedule an appointment: (Note the Bryan School has a website to handle the scheduling of advisor appointments)
Graduate Students (GR): Information about your specific advisor is NOT available through UNCGenie or Campus Pipeline. You should contact the Director of Graduate Study in your academic department for information about how advising is handled in your department.
Contact Information for Graduate Programs of Study can be found at http://www.uncg.edu/grs/programs/allprograms.html. If you know the name of your advisor you can look them up in the Online Campus Directory.
