UNCG Staff Advocates for Students
The UNCG Staff Advocates for Students Program was initiated for the purpose of improving student satisfaction across campus. In cases where students feel their needs are not fully being met, the Staff Advocates are given the authority to intervene on behalf of a student to interpret University policy and practice.
The Staff Advocates often assist in the following ways:
- Standardizing procedures to reduce student confusion
- Developing systems to reduce student runaround
- Streamlining administrative processes
- Offering preventative action rather than reactionary solutions
- Offering high touch, high tech solutions to student needs
- Recommending changes to policy or procedure
UNCG's vision of "being a leading student-centered university" guides the decision-making process of the Staff Advocates. This does not mean the student is always right; however, it does mean the best interest of the student should prevail in most decisions.
While the Staff Advocates can interpret policy and practice on a case-by-case basis, they do not have the authority to change policies or practices. However, they may recommend, individually or collectively, policy or procedural changes in consultation with department heads or other relevant parties.
The Staff Advocates have established a network so that each advocate serves as the "point person" for their respective departments. When problems do occur or an advocate is needed, the designated "point person" for that department should be contacted.
